B.A.A. Boston Marathon

ATHLETES MUST MEET TIME STANDARDS WHICH CORRESPOND TO AGE AND GENDER TO QUALIFY FOR THE BOSTON MARATHON. LEARN MORE BELOW:

  • The MDU Resources Full Marathon is run on a USATF-certified course, so your finish time can be submitted toward Boston Marathon qualification.

    • Qualifying standards are set by age and division, based on your age on the date of the Boston Marathon you are applying for.
    • Only a certified full marathon distance is accepted. Shorter distances do not count.
    • Times are based on official net time, also known as chip time.
    • Meeting the standard earns you the chance to apply, not a guaranteed entry. When applications exceed the field size, the fastest qualifiers in each age and division group are accepted first.
    • Runners must be 18 or older on Boston Marathon race day.
    • The B.A.A. sets the qualifying window, verifies all times, and does not designate which races qualify.

Standards, qualifying windows, and registration dates change each year. Check the B.A.A. for current requirements.

AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings

The MDU Resources Full Marathon is one of hundreds of qualifying races in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Rankings, where runners 40 and older compete for a global ranking in their age group.

  • Athletes are ranked on their single fastest time in a qualifying event. Every athlete who runs a qualifying race appears in the rankings.
  • There are nine age groups, from 40-44 through 80+, with separate men’s and women’s divisions.
  • To be ranked and to receive a championship invitation, runners must be registered at AbbottWMM.com.
  • Top-ranked athletes in each age group are invited to the Age Group World Championships, which is hosted within a different major marathon each year.
  • The number of invitations per age group depends on the field size of the host race and is set by AbbottWMM.

Qualifying windows, championship locations, and invitation numbers change each season.
